Orientation Meetings for Families – Early December
Again this year, we will invite families to orientation meetings. Meetings will take place throughout the city in the first two weeks of December. Please encourage families to join us to learn more about the kindergarten application process and the transition to school-age special education services. Dates and locations coming soon!
4. Kindergarten Admissions
Families of all children born in 2009, including families of children with disabilities, should apply to kindergarten, starting in January. The process of submitting an application will be different this year but, as always, families are encouraged to start exploring options now. Please share the attached flyer with families and visit www.nyc.gov/schools/kindergarten for more information.
5. Gifted & Talented Admissions
Any family that would like their child tested for a Gifted & Talented program should submit a Request for Testing (RFT) form by Friday, November 8, 2013. Information sessions about Gifted & Talented admissions for kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade will be held throughout the city this month. Application guidelines and practice tests are provided in Gifted and Talented handbooks and are available online and at public elementary schools and enrollment offices. (For a list of enrollment offices, see http://schools.nyc.gov/ChoicesEnrollment/NewStudents/BEO/BoroughEnrollmentOffices.htm.) For more information and a schedule of information sessions, see http://schools.nyc.gov/Academics/GiftedandTalented.
